Because if you haven’t and want to experience it, then you should add Takasakiyama Natural Zoological Garden to your Oita or Fukuoka itinerary! You’ll find around 1,000 monkeys walking around freely in the area.

Best to watch the monkeys during feeding time and during play! There’s also a small indoor kids play area and a mini museum about the monkeys.

Sanrio Harmonyland

I’m a Sanrio fan, so when I learned there’s a theme park dedicated to Sanrio characters, I couldn’t not visit it! Of course, my son also enjoyed the place because there were many kiddie rides and attractions inside. But, apart from that, the cute Sanrio characters are really to die for.

Check my review of the Sanrio Harmonyland in parts 1 and 2.

Sano Botanical Garden

Enjoy full blooming flowers and other plants as your child enjoys sliding in the playground and glass sliding hill. I’m sure your kids will enjoy the 60-meter-long slide, which can’t be found just anywhere!

Kijima Kogen Park

Thrilling long rides without having to queue is one of the best things Oita has to offer.

Kijima Kogen Park is an underrated theme park found in Oita City and is where you’ll find Japan’s first wooden roller coaster. But what we loved about the place was that you can literally ride until you drop because there’s technically few to almost none visitors in each attraction.

Oita Art Museum

Not everyone appreciates art, but for those that do, there’s a place for you in Oita!

Walk out of the North Exit from Oita station, and then walk for about 25 minutes and you’ll reach Oita Art Museum. Find sculptures and paintings of modern Japanese artists not only indoors, but also outdoors where nature meets art.

Nishitetsu Resort Inn Beppu

nishitetsu resort inn beppu, beppu hotel, beppu hotel onsen

To be able to go to different Oita City places with ease, we decided to stay at a Beppu hotel. Because traveling to Fukuoka from Oita places might be a bit exhausting and would take a lot of time, it’s best to stay at a nearer place.

Finding an affordable Oita hotel wasn’t that easy even though they weren’t that crowded. Thankfully, we secured a great place at Beppu that offers free onsen inside. You might want to consider checking Nishitetsu Resort Inn Beppu should you decide to stay at Beppu.
