The Electricity Museum is one of the places to visit in Nagoya for FREE. Upon entering the building, you’ll be greeted by a cozy coffee shop where you can relax while your kids play in the free museum.

And while you may think that there’s only little to do here since you don’t have to pay for anything, you’re absolutely wrong. This Nagoya City museum has a lot to offer, and they’re especially enjoyable for young and elementary kids.

The Nagoya Electricity Museum is composed of 4 floors, and each floor showcases different ideas about electricity.

Discovery area

On the 2nd floor, you’ll find the Discovery area where you’ll learn about the history of electricity.

The first thing you’ll see upon entering are all about Earth’s energy. I’m sure your child will be fascinated by the plasma ball there, just like my son.

On the next part, you’ll see the people involved in the electricity history. There’s even a replica of the light Thomas Edison discovered – which where everything that lights started. There’s even a frictional electric generator there.

Journey of Electricity

If you’re done learning about the history of electricity, you can move to 3rd floor and learn some more. On this floor of Nagoya City science museum, you’ll see how electricity is transported from the source to the city.

There’s even a large display of city where you and your kids can play – even taking your photo, making you look like you’re the electrician. Other than that, there are also areas where you can play and see how the electricity affects our everyday lives.

Wonderland and Forest Play

Optical illusions and trick arts await you on the 4th floor, which is called Wonderland.

There is so much to do on this floor because your child can experience so much. From looking at the balls and how forces make them move, and so many wild ideas that I’m sure young children would find fascinating!

Move on to Forest Play, and your child would get stuck there for hours. This is my son’s favorite part. He was engulfed in these kinds of play – and I think any toddler or child of his age would love this part.

Electricity Museum getting there

Along Hirokoji Street is where Nagoya Electricity Museum is located. Get off at Fushimi Station, and you just have to walk for about 2 minutes, and you’ll see a building where you can enjoy for a few hours – or more.

Electricity Museum Nagoya reviews conclusion

Not many Nagoya museums that are free offer so much like the Electricity Museum. I like that our son and I enjoyed and learned so much while inside. So if you’re traveling with kids, make sure to add this to your Nagoya itinerary!

What is Nagoya famous for?

I still have a lot to see in Nagoya, but below are some of the best places to visit in Nagoya in winter (of course, since we don’t have winter in our country, we love winter in others!).

Flight of Dreams

Be in awe of the huge airplane when you visit the Flight of Dreams!

The first thing you need to see upon landing at Chubu Centrair is the Flight of Dreams. I love how extensive it is even though it utilizes only a small portion of the airport. Not only that, but it’s also FREE so you don’t have to feel guilty when you check it out upon arrival.

Know more about Flight of Dreams here.

Oasis 21 and Mirai Tower

One of the main Nagoya tourist spots to visit is the Mirai Tower. But if you’re there, make sure to visit Oasis 21 as well, as they are just side by side. And while you may think there’s nothing to do there, think again.

See a 360-degrees of the Nagoya City when you go up the Chubu Electric Power Mirai Tower. You’ll be going up 90 meters from the floor and be able to see from the inside, but up 10 meters more when you go outdoors.

Beside this tower is Oasis 21, where you can take lots of great photos, and just enjoy the view. But apart from that, there’s an oval-shaped spaceship with flowing water to create that ripple effect – make sure to visit to get a nice view from 14 meters up.

Below that, you’ll find stores where you can also buy great Totoro and cute stuff. Of course, there are also lots of great food there in case you get hungry after shopping.

LEGOLAND Japan

The Miniland is my favorite part of LEGOLAND Japan.

Not everyone loves LEGOs, but all I know is that my son loves these bricks, so we definitely couldn’t miss visiting this place. Know why you should visit LEGOLAND Japan, and probably stay a night or 2 at their resort!

And while you’re there, why not visit SEA Life as well? This is only just a few steps from LEGOLAND, and you can even buy both tickets at a discounted price here.

Places to visit near Nagoya

Still looking for more Nagoya activities? If you’re willing to do some side trip, then check out the places we visited below. I’m sure you’ll think twice about not visiting them, since they’re just near Nagoya.

Shirakawa Go

Visit the famous Shirakawa Go if you love stunning sights as this.

One of the things I love about Japan is their culture, and Shirakawa Go is a place to experience that. The UNESCO World Heritage site is a stunning place to enjoy any season of the year, so make sure to take lots of great photos when you’re there!

Know the best way to get to Shirakawa Go here.

Takayama

When I first visited Takayama, we were in a flash – since it was included in our Shirakawa Go tour. I couldn’t enjoy the visit that much since I wanted to check each and every one of the stores.

So, when we came back again and had the chance to check it slowly, I was very happy. I like that you can walk around freely during travels, and that’s the reason why we always prefer to make our own itinerary. Want tips on how to create your own itinerary? Check here.

Kurobe Gorge Railway

A relaxing train ride is what Kurobe Gorge Railway offers.

Not to be confused with the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, Kurobe Gorge Railway became a part of our Nagoya itinerary on a bit of the last minute. I was confused at first about how different it is from the former tour, because they were alike.

But while I was confused all along, they were different in terms of the rides. With Kurobe Gorge Railway, you’ll be riding the same train until you go back to the first station. But the rest is history, and if you wanna know more, check here
