Fukuoka with kids itinerary

For families traveling to Fukuoka, I know that there’s one question that boggles your mind, “What to do with kids in Fukuoka?” And you might not find many people answering your question because Kyushu Fukuoka might not be the number one on most people’s list when traveling to Japan.

And since I am a parent myself, I know the pain when kids get bored and don’t enjoy their vacations. So, here I am, sharing with you the best nearby Fukuoka places to visit with kids.

Marine World Uminonakamichi

One of the places we look for when traveling with kids is a place that introduces animals. And apart from zoos, aquariums are great places to let children learn without them getting bored.

Having the first Japan aquarium to display a sand tiger shark in a large tank, Marine World Uminonakamichi is a place where you’ll find 20,000 fishes with 350 varieties. But I was utterly fascinated by the sardine feeding show you can watch inside.

Dazaifu Amusement Park

Nestled beside Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, Dazaifu Amusement Park is a place to bring toddlers and very young kids. It’s a place where your children can enjoy cute rides (some a little bit extreme) without having to queue.

Huis Ten Bosch

If you want to feel like you’ve been to Netherlands within Asia, then you must visit Huis Ten Bosch. Life-sized Dutch buildings will wow you once entering Huis Ten Bosch theme park, and you’ll also fall in love with the cute Miffy!

Yufuin no Mori

Yufuin no mori has been in my Fukuoka itinerary for the longest time. However, in the end, we didn’t book that sightseeing train because I was afraid we wouldn’t make it in time to reserve seats. Nonetheless, I’d love to ride that scenic train the next time we go back to Fukuoka!

Learn more about it here.

Kijima Kogen Park

Thrilling rides and breathtaking scenery is what I like to describe Kijima Kogen Park. The underrated theme park in Oita, Beppu, is a must-visit for people who love thrilling rides. The best part? You don’t have to wait in line for every ride, so you can ride until you drop!

Sanrio Harmonyland

If your kid is still very small and it seems she’s not going to enjoy the extreme Fukuoka roller coaster in Kijima Kogen Park, then, I suggest you bring her to Sanrio Harmonyland instead.

You might ask me, “What if I only have boys?”

Don’t worry! Believe it or not, my son totally enjoyed his visit to Sanrio Harmonyland.

TeamLab Forest

Want indoor playground? Fukuoka has it – with lights, sounds, and great ambiance to truly make you forget about your worries. If you’ve been to other TeamLab attractions, then, you already have a gist of what to expect when you go to TeamLab Forest Fukuoka.

Ohori Park

Who says you can’t enjoy places without paying anything?

Nothing beats free stuff, and one of the Fukuoka attractions you should visit with kids without entrance fee is Ohori Park. Spend hours of fun enjoying the great outdoors – watching the birds and the trees move along with the cool breeze, or maybe just enjoying sitting at the park.

Kyushu Wildlife Park African Safari

There are so many things to do in Fukuoka, but one thing you shouldn’t miss when you’re going there with children is visiting Kyushu Wildlife Park African Safari. One of the hardest Fukuoka tourist spot to reach via public transportation, Kyushu Wildlife Park offers lots of tours so you need not rent a car to get there. (Here’s where we booked ours!)

Watch out for my review about Fukuoka Safari in my next post!

Yufuin

Yufuin might not be a Fukuoka theme park for kids, but I’m sure kids will like what they’ll see, especially inside Yufuin Floral Village. You’ll find so many cute things like towels, bags, stuffed toys, and many others featuring anime, cartoons, Disney princesses.

Another famous character not to miss when visiting Yufuin is Totoro. I’m sure you’ll go gaga over the cute spots and items all over Yufuin.

Beppu

Beppu

If you have back pain, shoulder pain, knee pain or whatever body pain there is, then one of the best places to visit in Fukuoka is Beppu. Because you’ll find lots of onsens in the area. You’ll even see steams coming out of street holes!

So why is it included in this kid-friendly Fukuoka itinerary? That’s because my son loved dipping in onsens too! Of course, we limit his time of stay just to be sure!

Fukuoka with kids (winter)

We went to Fukuoka in winter so we had to pack extra things to keep ourselves from getting frozen. Stay tuned to my future post – cause I’ll be writing about some tips about what to pack when traveling in winter.
