Kyoto Japanese Restaurant, Malate – Many Japanese restaurant in Malate offer great dishes, and Kyoto Japanese restaurant adds to the list we haven’t tried. So, we went there and knew that it’s a place to visit when craving authentic Japanese dishes!

Kyoto Restaurant Malate price menu

On the Kyoto Restaurant Malate menu, many food is listed, but it was a bit hard to choose as there were no photos. But upon checking, hubby had chosen some of the dishes we order from other restaurants.
And that’s what we ordered.
FREE Appetizer

While waiting for our food, a server came and gave us small cups filled with fried salmon in teriyaki sauce. Before even telling him we didn’t order it, he immediately told us they were on the house: that means its FREE!
Crunchy on the outside and soft inside, the fried salmon with skin on was very nice. It was drenched in teriyaki sauce, and it’s a great appetizer for any of the dishes you order.
Futo Maki

Futo Maki (PHP 569 or 9.55 USD) came by first, of course, since all the chef had to do was to roll everything into the seaweed wrap. These 8 slices of maki had just the right amount of Japanese rice, not meant to make you super full – so you can still enjoy many other dishes.

Of course, it’s always best to enjoy the whole futomaki altogether, especially with wasabi and a bit of the soy sauce.
Tori Karaage
It took quite a while for the next 2 dishes to arrive. But 8 minutes after, both came, and we finally started eating!

The tori karaage (PHP 439 or 7.37 USD) was just the right size for every piece.
And yes, you can’t go wrong with this dish because it’s as authentic as it can be – with the yummy gingery taste and crunchy outer, this chicken thigh is perfect with the Japanese mayo topped with chili flakes.
Gyuniku sukiyaki

Ther server wasn’t joking when she said their sukiyaki is good for 3-4 people.
It was presented very nicely because when it came, the staff even brought a burner to ensure that your soup is hot all throughout your meal. We just turned it off after a while because the soup overflows when boiling.
It was fully loaded with all the good stuff you can have in a sukiyaki soup (PHP 999 or 16.77 USD). Veggies, mushrooms, beef, and noodles – a perfect hot soup for the cold weather!
Matcha coconut

Hubby was intrigued by Kyoto Japanese Restaurant’s matcha drink. After seeing the flyer on the table, he couldn’t help but try it out. The one he ordered had a coconut juice in it. And surprisingly, matcha and coconut are a great match!
A little bit on the sweeter side, you might want a glass of water for after you finish your drink. This drink is suitable for sweet tooth like you!
Kyoto Restaurant hours: 11 AM until 3 AM
More dishes we tried on our next visit
We were delighted with our experience at Kyoto Malate Japanese restaurant. And you know what happens if we like the restaurant? We go back, of course! So, here’s what we tried on our 2nd visit!
Gyudon

My son is currently craving gyudon almost everytime he sees it on the Japanese restaurant menu. So, on our second visit, we tried it and he was very happy with the rice bowl. He ate almost half of the bowl, finishing almost all the beef strips.
So, is 439 PHP (7.44 USD) worth it? It sure is! Do take note that there’s a huge serving of rice in Kyoto Malate’s gyudon.
Shake tobiko maki

We wanted to try another maki because we were happy with futo maki. And this time, we tried shake tobiko maki (489 PHP or 8.29 USD). Inside is a slice of half-cooked salmon with avocado, and each piece of maki is topped with raw salmon.

And, yes, it is highly recommended!
Tonkotsu ramen

Almost tempted to order sukiyaki again, we chose to try a ramen this time. We opted to try tonkotsu ramen (489 PHP or 8.29 USD) – as the basic ramen. The soup base is light and creamy, with just the right amount of ramen.
I was amazed by the generous toppings it had. The 3 slices of pork were charred and you can really feel it with every bite. But another thing that I was surprised is the bamboo shoot, because it’s my first time trying and tasting something like theirs.

I’m not sure if that’s how fresh bamboo shoots taste, because it’s my first time tasting something so fresh like this!
Ebi Tempura

We finally tried Kyoto Malate’s ebi tempura (569 PHP or 9.65 USD). Lo and behold, each piece of shrimp tempura had a large and tasty shrimp inside. Covered with the crunchy tempura flakes, the ebi tempura would surely delight your taste buds, so you’re gonna enjoy it!

California maki
We tried another maki, which is one of the most common – California maki. And we got a bit excited there’s eel included in their maki, we were disappointed that since they didn’t have eel, it was also missing in the california maki.

I hope they added a different fish or any other ingredient in exchange for the missing eel, but just more cucumber? So maybe you ask the staff first in case you want to try california maki, whether they have the eel or not.

Nonetheless, the price PHP 439 (7.37 USD), was just so-so, but would have been better if they had the eel inside.
Katsu curry rice
Another thing we like about the Japanese restaurants is their having rice meals with soup – in most cases, it’s miso soup. And the katsu curry rice had a generous serving of tonkatsu and rice, and we had the curry sauce separated.

We like that there’s so much in this meal, and that the curry sauce is just the right spiciness – not recommended for very young kids, though, except if they love spicy food. The tonkatsu meat wasn’t fatty, and you get a nice meat fill for the price of PHP 529 (8.88 USD)!
Beef tenderloin
Arriving on your table with a hot plate and a burner, this cubed beef tenderloin are best enjoyed with the sauce they’ll serve you, but they’re also great on their own. I like that the beef are medium rare when they arrive cause they’ll still be cooked while you chitchat with your family and friends.

Is it worth it for PHP 1,099 (18.45 USD)? I believe it is! I’m sure any carnivore (beef-eating person to be exact) would enjoy this dish!
Seafood fried rice

Good for one, two, or three, this bowl of seafood fried rice is a great to fill that carb craving! Each spoonful you eat would make your palate rejoice because there’s so much flavor. Share it with your loved ones or finish them whole, it’s your choice!
Ice cream
Post a photo and review on Google and you can get a free ice cream!

Not sure though which brand of ice cream they got, but my son basically finished my bowl so quick even before it melted! So, grab the free ice cream while you still can!

PS. We requested a matcha ice cream, but if not, they’ll give you vanilla instead.
Buy 1 get 1 americano cocowater
The newest promo they have on the drinks is this buy 1 get 1 americano cocowater. It might sound weird, but the combination of the 2 apparently tastes great! If you plan on trying it, now’s the best time!

Pay PHP 150 (2.52 USD) and get 2 drinks already!
Matcha crepe cake
If you got the VIP Card, then you can get this matcha crepe cake for FREE on your birth month. Yes, it’s totally free and totally yummy! We enjoyed every bit of the greenish cake up to the last bite.

Kyoto Japanese Restaurant reviews conclusion
I’m not surprised there’s new Japanese restaurant (Malate), especially since there are many Japanese people visiting there. Not only that, but there are also Koreans around the area, so it’s safe to say the place is famous among tourists.

There was even once we saw Japanese people while waiting for our parking at Chung Dam restaurant – this one’s another place to visit with quality dishes!
