Hida Hotel Takayama Japan

Upon arriving at Takayama, we knew that it was a famous tourist spot because we saw lots of foreigners corner to corner. So, I’m sure you won’t have a hard time booking Takayama hotels because they’re technically side by side.

But what sets Mercure Hida Takayama Hotel apart from the others is the amazing amenities it offers. Other than that, it has a relaxing vibe that you’ll surely have a restful sleep at night.

Amenities

The most important thing when reading about hotels is the amenities it offers. And yes, I will discuss them below.

Near JR Takayama station

A few minutes from JR Takayama station, you’ll find Mercure Hida Takayama. It was drizzling the night we arrived at Takayama, so we’re thankful that Mercure is one of Hida Takayama hotels that’s just a 5-minute walk from the train station.

Upon reaching the reception, we waited for our turn and immediately got our rooms. There were also some Westerners checking in during that time, so I knew the place was famous in other countries.

Attractions are nearby

takayama, old town
Takayama Old Town is one of the famous tourist spots you can see a few minutes walk from Mercure Hida Takayama.

Not only is Mercure Hida Takayama very near the train station, it’s also very near many tourist spots. For one, the old town is also just a walking distance, so, you can go there whenever you wish.

Since the place is where tourists reside, the place is also full of souvenir shops and restaurants. You can just cross the street to buy presents for your loved ones. And when you get hungry, you can look left and right to find what suits your cravings.

Pleasing interiors and exteriors

We love the wooden interiors of Mercure Hida Takayama Hotel.

Unlike any other Japan hotels we visited, Mercure Hida Takayama Hotel has a very unique interior. Everything is made of wood, and it added to the relaxation, especially since it was rainy outside.

Apart from the pleasing interiors, I also loved their decorations outside.

Bamboo trees aligned the pathway leading to the Takayama hotel’s entrance, making you feel like you’re in the woods. It’s nice to have these kinds of sight especially after a tiring day of walking, touring, and shopping!

Spacious room

Once handed our keys, we went up so we could rest.

The room was spacious (22 sq meters), and isn’t just your typical Japanese hotel. The floorings are all carpeted, the bed is very comfy, and the air-conditioned room – all too perfect for slumber at night.

Clean comfort room

The comfort room had a woody floor as well and you know they want to practice sustainability because even their toiletries are made of wood. And you know that their toilet bowl is quality based on how it looks.

The only thing we think that’s lacking is a bathtub.

However, the shower does its job well, so it’s not a big concern. Of course, there’s a huge bottle of shampoo, conditioner, and bath gel included in the bathroom.

Welcome gift

There’s 3 of us, so we got 3 welcome gift – snacks for our stay. The welcome gift is a pastry that’s great to munch on while you look for a place to eat outside.

Onsen

We’re spoiled, so when looking for a Japan hotel, we prefer the ones with onsen. However, at Mercure Hida Takayama, there’s a fee you have to pay to use their onsens. Of course, male and female onsens are separated and both are unmanned, so you have to be responsible with your actions.

As always, no camera is allowed inside, so I can’t show you the facility. But, we enjoyed the dip in the hot spring pool. Make sure to follow the guidelines when entering and using onsens.

Kiddie toiletries

It’s becoming norm in Japan hotels to provide kiddie toiletries, and it’s something we look forward to when going there. Of course, Mercure Hida Takayama Hotel can’t be left behind, so they also have one for kids.

This package was the same as the one in Richmond Hotel Fukuoka Tenjin. But other hotels have the same type of packages, only different designs.

Mercure Hida Takayama reviews conclusion

Was I able to capture the best Mercure Hida Takayama photos? I think my photos didn’t do justice to how cool and relaxing the place is. But, I hope I was able to highlight the most important part of reviewing the Takayama hotel.

We didn’t book Mercure Hida Takayama breakfast because there are so many great food finds in the area!

Things to do in Takayama

Thinking about what to do in Takayama? Think no more! Below are some of the best things to do in Takayama that you shouldn’t let pass.

Visit the Old Town

takayama, old town

When I hear Takayama, 2 words come into my mind: old town.

That’s because it’s the famous place we visited years back when we booked a tour at Klook. (Make sure to redeem my code HAPPIKLOOK, so your bookings get discounts automatically!)

From Nagoya, we rode a bus that took us to both beautiful places, and from that I knew that we should get back to Takayama to spend more time there. And this stay at Mercure Hida Takayama made it possible!

Go to Shirakawa Go

Just beside the JR Takayama station, we saw a bus station where you can ride to get to Shirakawa Go. It takes about 1 hour for you to get there, so plan your itinerary well, because Shirakawa Go is definitely worth the visit.
