1919 Grand Cafe history

1919 Grand Cafe might not be one of the oldest restaurants in Binondo, but I can assure you that its building is one. What used to be HSBC building is now the cafe with a pleasing interiors and a vintag-ey exterior.
It might not look like it, but the building was built around 1921-1922. Can you imagine how it stood the test of time?
1919 Grand Cafe price menu
The 1919 Grand Cafe menu was waiting for me when I arrived at our table. And as I checked what’s inside, I was surprised to find many good things to eat. However, you wouldn’t know if they were good unless you tried them, so here goes my review of the 1919 Grand Cafe dishes.
Carbonara

One of our go tos when dining at a pasta restaurant is carbonara because our son loves it. And when I learned that it’s one of 1919 Grand Cafe’s bestsellers, we couldn’t not order it.
When it arrived, it had a different vibe. The bowl of cream pasta had a poached egg on top, making the dish creamier. A garlic bread was also included so you can still scoop out the remaining cream sauce after.
Seafood pasta
The cream-sauced pasta was dedicated to the kids, so we ordered another pasta: seafood pasta. I liked that the tomato sauce was plentiful, but even so, the sauce wasn’t that sour.

Each strand of spaghetti was coated with flavorful tomato sauce. Not to mention, there were a lot of seafood toppings: squids and mussels. There’s also 2 slices of tomato to make it even healthier!
Salt and pepper squid

The second 1919 Grand Cafe food that came was the salt and pepper squid.
And just like the kani salad, the squid had a lot. Crunchy squid pieces are topped with a slightly tangy and sweet sauce. On the side, there’s a dipping vinegar to help cleanse your palate off the grease.
Kani salad

We were 5 adults when we dined, so we ordered 2 plates of kani salad. When it arrived, we were flabbergasted because the vegetable salad had a lot of serving! Thankfully, it was just veggies, so they were easy to munch on and finish.
Eventually, we finished both plates, since we were all famished during that time, and it the appetizer so it should go in first, right?
Pork belly
Another thing that’s surprising about the 1919 Grand Cafe menu 2025 is pork belly.
It had a photo on the menu, so we were expecting that much food, however, when it arrived, the serving had doubled. And you know what the best part is? The pork slices weren’t that fatty considering it was the belly part.

On the side, there are buttered vegetables and a bowl of gravy for dipping sauce.
I hope we could get the same quality of meat the next time we go back!
Seared salmon with wasabi mayo

The only order that was a bit small in serving is the salmon. For me, the salmon meat was a bit bland, and wasn’t seasoned that well. So, this dish is great if you want it light and healthy.
Below the fish is a cup of mashed potato, which pairs perfectly with the salmon. You’ll surely end up filling quite full if you finish the whole serving by yourself!
Chicken cordon bleu

The last dish we had was chicken cordon bleu because it’s the meat we believe any kid would love. However, I found the chicken meat to be a bit tough, well, what do you expect of a chicken breast, right?
However, the ham-and-cheese stuffing inside made it a bit nicer. This one was also a big serving so you can share it with your family and friends.
1919 Grand Cafe review conclusion
We’re now at the last part of this blog post. So, what’s the verdict? I can say that the 1919 Restaurant menu was surprisingly a bit overwhelming at first since it offers a lot of comforting dishes.
But, apart from that, the place is also very inviting because it’s decorated a little bit different than your ordinary restaurant in Binondo. You wouldn’t even think about how the interiors are like that looking at 1919 Grand Cafe building’s exterior.

Apologue Coffee
One of Binondo cafes that need love is Apologue Coffee. We’re curious why people don’t queue there, because they have quality desserts you wouldn’t find in just any cafe. They specialize in ube-flavored drinks and desserts, so if you love ube, you should give it a go!
