Unagi Kurofune, Malate – We’re not really fans of unagi (or eel), but since we tried a great-tasting unagi dish during our recent travel, our eyes lit up upon seeing Unagi Kurofune. So, we went there to give it a go.

Unagi Kurofune Japanese restaurant menu
I have yet to discover whether Unagi Kurofune is one of the best Malate place to eat, since we only ate there once. But, you know what, we’d gladly be back to try more of its dishes! So, isn’t it already a sign for you to try here?
What did we order from the long list on the Unagi Kurofune price menu?
Hitsu-mabushi (¾ kg eel)
Of course, the first thing that’s on our mind when we went to Unagi Kurofune restaurant is its unagi. It’s already found in its name, so you’re definitely sure that that’s their specialty!
And on the Unagi Kurofune Malate menu, there are quite a lot of unagi choices, so we had to deliberate first which one to try.
So, we chose hitsu-mabushi, which is a set menu composed of not only the unagi and rice, but also a miso soup, steamed egg, dashi soup, and side dishes. I’m sure you’re going home with a happy tummy after finishing this!
Tebasaki with special sauce
When I saw the tebasaki word on the Unagi Kurofune menu, I thought it meant spicy chicken wings. Turns out, tebasaki meant chicken wings, so we ordered one with special sauce. Of course, we were careful not to order the spicy one, since the one we tried at Yotteba Izakaya Revolution had lots of black pepper on them!
This time, we chose the one with sweet glaze, and was glad we did!
The skin was crunchy and just had the right amount of sauce. You can pair the wings with sake or any drink you like!
Katsu-ju
My son chose katsu-ju over gyudon, and I was surprised.
He usually loves gyudon, so when he said he wanted this one, I asked him again. Thankfully, he liked this dish – with the meat not that fatty, and quite tender, he ate almost half of the dish.
Katsu-ju also comes with a dashi soup and steamed egg. So, if you don’t like eel, you can get this one instead.

If not, then you better go there and take better pictures, since I assure you that the food is definitely authentic. We even saw Japanese people dining there, so you’re not going to get just any food but ones close enough as in Japan.
