Everything’s Good About George and Onnie’s, Except for One

George and Onnie’s, Robinsons Manila – This post is about one of the must-try Filipino restaurant in Manila – wait, what? Okay, I might not write about many Filipino cuisine restaurants because we don’t frequent them, but I believe, I need to write about this one!

If you’re here for the first time, I’d like to invite you to follow me on my socials –Facebook,YouTube, and TikTok so you’re updated on our recent food, hotel, and travel reviews!

George and Onnie’s Filipino Restaurant menu

We ate at George and Onnie’s Robinsons Place Manila, and I was surprised to find it in its location in Midtown Wing, Level 1. Because while we go to RP Manila quite frequently, I haven’t noticed it until our friend told us to eat there.

Turns out, George and Onnie’s Manila just opened 5 months ago, so it’s fairly new in the area. And while we’re not really fans of Filipino dishes, we found ourselves scooping the viands one at another.

So, go ahead and see which one’s we loved and which one’s not approved in our tastebuds.

Okoy

Your classic Filipino favorite appetizer just got upgraded into a more tempting look and taste. Large pieces of shrimp were deep-fried with julienned carrots and sweet potato. When this dish arrived, we were all drooling, so I quickly took the photo for us to dig in.

Fresh lumpia

Another great Filipino starter is the fresh lumpia.

Quite a good size to fill you up, the fresh and clean taste of the veggies are enough to make you smile – thanks to the classic sweet sauce added to it.

Kurobota pork sinigang

So, I want to be honest about this dish.

I was excited to try it quickly because we don’t often cook this dish at home. But to my surprise, the soup was on the salty side, I dunno if we just eat blandly, or the chef wrongly added too much salt.

Nonetheless, you could probably request the chef to lessen the salt to avoid you getting sick.

Kare-kare

kare kare

With just the right amount and thickness of the peanut sauce, the kare kare dish can easily make you fall in love. When you add the orange sauce to your garlic fried rice, and then eat the meat and veggies – I’m afraid you’re going to get your 2nd cup of carbs!

So, if you love kare kare, better to try George and Onnie’s menu – to get beef tripe, tendon, and various veggies.

Beef steak tagalog

This one’s a game changer!

Not just your typical bistek, George and Onnie’s style is a bit different from the usual. Because they have these pink onion rings on top – which definitely triggered my hunger! Again, great to pair with plain or garlic rice!

Liempo

Raise your hand if you love BBQ liempo!

Here at George and Onnie’s, the sliced liempo comes with a salad side that makes you feel less guilty of indulging in all the porky goodness in this plate. Thankfully, the pork belly isn’t that fatty, so we had more meat eaten!

Garlic fried rice

Classic and savory – garlic fried rice is a must when you have everything Filipino. Order for one or for sharing, you decide!

Tinapa rice

Since the garlic fried rice wasn’t enough, we ordered tinapa rice, and it was a nice deviation from the usual fried rice that we eat. And you know how it tastes if you’re familiar with tinapa taste!

Chikko limeade

We wanted to try a different kind of drink, and because chico limeade sounds something extraordinary, that’s what we chose.

What I liked about this drink is that it had the tangy flavor of chico, and a bit sweet taste. So if you’re an adventurous person, this drink is a must try!
