Matsunoya Tonkatsu – One of our new discovery of Japan must-eat restaurants is Matsunoya. Although we’ve been to its sister company, Matsuya, many many times, it’s our first time trying this one. And we’ll surely be back when we see it again in the future.

Matsunoya tonkatsu menu

What’s in a Matsunoya Japanese restaurant?
Matsuya’s specialty is beef rice bowls, but Matsunoya’s is tonkatsu. Surely, I couldn’t order others because tonkatsu’s my first love, and since we’re in Japan, we should be ordering their specialty dishes.

Katsu curry

Nagoya is famous for curries, so when I saw the katsu curry on the Matsunoya menu, I immediately decided on it. When it arrived, the tray was loaded with all the goodies I want to consume.
A huge serving of rice came with the set (we chose the large portion), and you can still have free refills if you’re still hungry. The generous serving of pork tonkatsu wan’t fatty, and a dipping curry sauce makes your meal complete.

Of course, it’s Matsuya-company, so the dish also came with a bowl of hot miso soup. Perfect to warm your body after that tiring flight. Another thing I liked about set meals is the inclusion of shredded cabbage, which I can enjoy with the sauces available on the table.
Karaage
Again and again and again, we ordered chicken karaage for our son. Yes, since that’s the sureball food he loves to eat. And, as always, Japan restaurants have quality food, meaning their chicken karaage has the legit taste.

Sausage and egg
We also added an order of sausage and egg since that’s what hubby loves to eat, and we shared some of our food since they were pretty big in size.
The sausages were really good! You know you’re having it good if you bite into your sausage and get that crunchy feel, I knew that one piece of sausage isn’t even enough.

Matsunoya review conclusion
When looking for the best places to eat in Japan, your cue is to look for where the people line up. However, during off-peak times, people will be busy with their work or school, so you don’t have a clue where to eat.
Nonetheless, majority of the places we dined at were really good. And sometimes, you just shouldn’t judge a restaurant based on the prices. Because while Matsunoya is on the cheaper side, there’s so many good things to eat on its menu.

Where to eat in Japan for dinner
Dinner or lunch, you’ll surely be looking for great food to eat. Below are some of the Japanese food list we usually go-to when we’re short on time and need a quick hunger fix!
Saizeriya

I can’t count how many times we dined at Saizeriya, and more often, it’s always crowded no matter what time of the day. Better to go there in the middle of the day, when it has lesser customers if you want to try!

Jolly Pasta

Previously, I made a comparison between Saizeriya and Jolly Pasta, because they almost have the same types of dishes. But, apparently, we only saw Jolly Pasta in Fukuoka, so I’m not sure whether you’ll also find it in Tokyo or Osaka.
But, the food they have are also really nice, so should you find one, better to try it as well!
Gaja Susukino
When in Susukino, Sapporo, this is one my recommendations. Gaja Susukino offers high quality meat at an affordable price. And yes, it’s unlimited yakiniku so you can go there super hungry and leave super full!

Yoshinoya
If you’ve been to Japan, I’m sure you have already tried the famous Yoshinoya. And shall I say more? This is one fast food chain you should visit for the quick and easy dinner!
