Upon entering, the staff let us choose where we wanted to sit. The restaurant wasn’t crowded when we arrived, but soon, some customers came in, also wanting to experience a delight in their taste buds.

Not for long, some non-Filipino customers came in.

It seemed to me that not many Filipinos appreciate Vietnamese cuisine. But I think it’s about time they learn to enjoy the refreshing, clean taste of pho, and the crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside fried spring roll.

Nonetheless, let’s head to what we ordered on the Bon Pho and Roll Makati menu.

Fresh spring roll

One of the staples when dining at a Vietnamese restaurant is their spring rolls. Whether you like it fresh or fried, it has a different vibe than our usual “lumpiang shanghai.”

Probably because of what’s inside the spring roll and its sauce, there’s something unique with every bite.

Another reason we order spring rolls in Vietnamese resto is because I don’t want to replicate it at home. I heard it’s a bit hard to handle rice paper – you need mastery skills to be able to handle it without getting grumpy!

Bon Pho and Roll’s fresh spring rolls have noodles, lettuce, and shrimp. Dip it in peanut sauce for that wonderful feel!

Fried spring roll

We were a bit unsatisfied with the fresh spring rolls, so we ordered a fried spring roll as well. Inside were some ground meat, diced carrots, and of course, glass noodles. The included sauce was a sweet vinegar – and they pair so well, you’d forget that’s a bowl of vinegar!

Special pho

pho, vietnamese noodle

What’s so special about the special pho is that it contains everything – from noodles, to beef, to balls. And I like that Bon Pho and Roll has a big bowl of the yummy clear soup to satisfy your cravings!

But, don’t forget to add the bean sprouts and squeeze the calamansi into your soup for a more refreshing meal. You can even add hoisin sauce and hot sauce (available on the table) for more flavor if you wish!

Saigon pork chop rice

My son didn’t think twice when he saw the Saigon pork chop rice and said he wanted it. True enough, he ate almost half of the big serving of rice dish! On a large plate, about more than a cup of rice was included, and a thin slice of well-marinated pork chop.

There’s salad and egg on the side, with a dipping vinegar to contrast the sweet sauce of the pork chop. A hot bowl of soup came with the pork chop dish to cap off the meal.

Rice vermicelli noodles with pork BBQ

dry noodles, vietnamese noodle

Something new that we tried on the Bon Pho and Roll menu is the rice vermicelli noodles with pork BBQ. We don’t often see this in other pho restaurants (or did we just miss them?), because this one had no soup in the noodles.

The noodle bowl also came with the signature vinegar sauce, and when I tried adding the sauce to the noodle, it surprisingly went well. Not sure the proper way to eat it though, but I’m sure you can customize it and add hoisin sauce or any of the other sauces there is on the table.

Sauces

Even before a customer sits down at any of the tables, the staff have already put all the sauces lined up. They have hot sauce, patis with chili (spicy fish sauce), chili sauce, fresh onions, hoisin sauce, and fresh chilis.

I like that they offer sauces to the customers so we can just choose whatever we want for our food.

Bon Pho and Roll reviews Philippines conclusion

These Bon Pho and Roll photos are just a testament to how much we enjoyed our dinner 2 nights before the new year. And because of that, we’d be trying out more Vietnamese restaurants in the future.

I don’t know if you got enticed into trying Bon Pho and Roll, but what I can assure you is that we’d be back again here next time to try other of its dishes.
