“How to be happy?” is a question that not everyone can answer.
There are many ways on how to be happy in life. But not everyone can agree with everything that you will say. Each and everyone has their reasons for becoming a happier person. And I believe what works for me might not work with someone else.
Truthfully, not every day is a sunny day for me. There are days when I feel all blue for no apparent reason. But I can tell you that I am happy most of the time, even if I am already enclosed in the four walls of our home almost all the time.
I am going to share with you my secret about how to be happy in my seemingly lonely world. You don’t have to do everything to be happy. Finding out what works well for you is the best way to become happy.

I am no expert when it comes to life hacks. However, I am proud to say that I am learning a lot every day. So I am sharing with you my secret about how to be happy.
Find out what makes you happy
One of the most effective ways on how to be happy is finding out what makes you glee. It might be hard at first because you are not aware of it yet. However, by trying out different things, you will be able to find out what makes you happy.
Learning more about yourself is one of the best ways to become happy. Try to listen and follow what your heart says, and you will be amazed at how happy you can be when you do.
Listen to your favorite songs
Did you know? A study has proven that you can become happy by listening to music. So when you are feeling down, press that play button to give a boost of dopamine (happy hormone)!
When we feel the chills upon hearing our favorite song, dopamine is released. Besides that, even the anticipation of the hair-raising moments helps our body release the happy hormone!
Stay away from negative people
Negative people always have a way of bringing people down. Being with negative people all the time could cause you to have feelings of sadness too. If you can, try to stay away from people who only see other people’s incapabilities.
How to identify toxic people? When you feel down after talking with them is one sign. Another thing to look out for is when they only see what you are lacking.
Find a hobby that you enjoy
Finding a hobby you truly enjoy is one of the best ways to become happier. It could be making crafts (like me! I love crocheting and journaling.) or learning a musical instrument. Here are some hobbies that you might want to try out:
- Playing a favorite sport (basketball, baseball, badminton, soccer, swimming, etc.)
- Watching comedy series
- Learning new skills like cooking, baking, dancing, drawing, painting, etc.
- Reading books
- Crocheting, knitting, and sewing
- Collecting toys
- Coloring books
- Playing puzzles
- Learning a new language
- Exercising (yoga, pilates)
- Photography
- Swimming and surfing
There are still many different hobbies you can find apart from the list provided. As long as it makes you happy, go for it. If you still cannot find what makes you happy, you can talk to your other friends and who knows, you might like their hobbies too.
Practice a healthy lifestyle
To practice a healthy lifestyle, one must eat well, exercise regularly, and spend time with people who love you. By eating healthily, you are doing your body a favor because it frees you from the scary diseases that could cause you pain.
When you exercise regularly, your body releases dopamine which will make you happier. So if you find that favorite sport or exercise routine, stick to it for a healthier you.
Lastly, spending time with people who love you is a great way about how to be happy. Because these people only know what’s best for you, they would not try to hurt or harm you.
Have at least one friend you can talk to anytime
Having a family or friend whom you can trust and talk to any time of the day is as rewarding as finding a thousand peso bill in your jeans pocket. You do not need many friends, just one or a few who are always there when you need them.
Go to your favorite places
It could be that cafe you go to whenever you need caffeine to perk you up or the park where you enjoy watching kids play. Go to the place that makes you feel good if you need a boost to lift you when you are blue.
Start journaling
One of the best things about journaling is that you can express anything you are feeling through writing. However, if you are a fan of writing, you can also choose from the different types of journaling.
You can try art or visual journaling, wherein you can create pages by sticking pictures, craft papers, or anything that feels like sticking. You can also do gratitude journaling wherein you write about things you are thankful for.
Choose whatever type of journaling you prefer, and let your creativity flow. It is one of my best-kept secrets about how to be happy!
Read the Bible
When faced with sadness or problems, what I like doing is reading the Bible. Knowing that there is God I can rely upon makes me feel better every time. Sometimes I even search for Bible verses that relate to the circumstances that I am facing. And it does wonders.
Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
PSALM 37:4
