To the right of Nishitetsu Resort Inn Beppu is a pizza-pasta restaurant, and on the left is a yakiniku buffet. What a treat!

I’m not sure if there are many Beppu hotels with onsen, but one thing is for sure: Nishitetsu Resort Inn Beppu is one where you can take a dip after a long day of walking!

Staying at Beppu wasn’t on my itinerary until hubby suggested it after he checked out some of the accommodations. He suggested we spend a few nights there so we could explore the area more easily and cheaply (Beppu is very close to Yufuin!).

He found Nishitetsu Hotel Inn Beppu (onsen included), and we were thrilled and overly excited to stay there!

From the Beppu station, hotels are everywhere! A 10-minute walk will bring you to Nishitetsu Resort Inn. It was 2:30 in the afternoon when we arrived and we’re lucky that we could bring our luggages to our room after checking in.

Our room with 2 single beds.

We booked an Economy Twin Room with 2 single beds, and the room might not be that spacious because it was only 15 sq meters. Nonetheless, the onsen hotel in Beppu didn’t disappoint because we could always use the hot tub whenever we wished (as long as within operating hours).

The bathroom was the typical size of most Japan hotels, so we’re kinda used to its quite cramped size. Still, we’re glad to have everything we need inside: shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, toothbrush and toothpaste.

The room was also equipped with a mini fan – for times when it’s winter and the centralized air conditioning unit is a bit hot. You’ll also find a refrigerator and a mini kettle for your needs.

Like most of the Japan hotels we choose, Nishitetsu Resort Inn Beppu also has laundromat, microwave oven, ice machine, and vendo machines for when you need them.

So what’s the EXTRA feature?

The usual Japan hotel has that everything I shared above. But Nishitetsu Resort Inn Beppu, has something more than that. Although very cheap, this Beppu hotel also offers onsen to all its customers. The onsen is located on the 2nd floor, and you can get your kimono for that authentic onsen experience on the ground floor.

Surprisingly, the onsen was unmanned, so they believe in the honesty of the guests.

Male and female onsens are, of course, separated. A separate key card is included in the card key because female onsen has a lock – for safety reasons.

Kimonos are available on the ground floor for that authentic onsen experience.

Inside the onsen, there are lockers to keep your things. Then there’s the blower and water dispenser inside after you use the onsen.

I couldn’t show you Nishitetsu Resort Inn Beppu photos of the onsen as cameras are prohibited – because everyone is not supposed to be wearing any clothes inside.

How to get to Beppu from Fukuoka

I believe that when making your Fukuoka itinerary, 7 days is okay if you want to sidetrip to Beppu. But where is Beppu located in Japan? Not really in Fukuoka, but in Oita – which is only a 2-hour train ride from Fukuoka.

We used our JR Kyushu Pass to travel from Fukuoka to Beppu – so the amount 5,940 JPT (2,354.55 PHP or 40.93 USD) is included in the unlimited JR train ticket.

From Hakata station, find the JR Kyushu Limited Express “Sonic” train and that will take you to Beppu station in no time.
