My First Sick Leave

I took a day off from work today. And it is my first time in 9 years of being employed that I used that privilege – Sick Leave. Yep. Is it shocking? I am too. It does not mean that I don’t get sick. I do. As a matter of fact, I do get to inhale viruses here and there, and gets infected by them at least once or like twice a year. But why do I not make use of the available days to take a rest? It is not that I do not care about my body. And it’s not like I want to share my virus with others. It’s just that I think that I can still perform my duties even with my weakened body and be able to not burden anyone in the office.

You see, when I take a day’s off, I leave my work to my backups, and they get to have an additional load to do. And despite having their own duties, they have to complete the job that I should be the one doing. Though, that is the reason why we have backups, still as much as possible, I try my best to go to work to finish my tasks.

Today though, as I woke up in the morning to my alarm, I found myself having high fever and with a bit of a headache. I lied on my bed, struggling whether I should be getting up and taking a shower at that moment or should I be staying at home the whole day to rest. My husband was already awake, also asking me if I will go to work. I lied there thinking and resting at the same time, and then after 20 minutes, I picked my phone and sent a message to my supervisor saying that I could not report to work today. Luckily, I know that he would allow me as it is my first, and he knows that I don’t take SL’s for nothing. So immediately he sent a message to the team saying that I am out today.

So since my husband also got the flu, I decided to make a warm soup for us. I got up, readied all the needed ingredients – most especially the virus and bacteria fighting ingredients – garlic and ginger, chopped them, then added few vegetables like raddish and cauliflower, added some spices available in the counter, and then, voila! I got us a remedy. Though I know that flu’s don’t go away easily, at least, it helped make us feel better now. Last night I couldn’t even cook our dinner so we had to eat out at some local Chinese restaurant and there we each ate a bowl of noodles. Yummy. 🙂

Thank goodness that we have the ingredients – I knew I didn’t have ginger, and all I have was garlic. But God was really amazing for when I looked back in the refrigerator, I found a medium sized ginger. It adds to the healing effect of the garlic. And now, I can say that I am ready to face the day ahead tomorrow.

Gladly, I was able to sleep almost through the day. My bed was my best companion today. And with the comfort of my blanket, it seems that I was asleep for 18 hours when I added all the hours up. Hihi. 🙂 Also, I am glad that the headache was finally gone. Probably thanks to the sleep and to the stuffs I took in – Ginger got analgesic effect, I am not sure for garlic though. But then I am glad they worked.

So tomorrow I hope that I would be back to my normal self and get all my energy up again. Though I still think that I need to bring with me the wonderful soup that I got from the internet. 😉
