Kyushu Wildlife Park African Safari: A Quick Review With Tips

Kyushu Wildlife Park African Safari – I’m sure you already know by now how much we love visiting places with animals – zoos, aquariums, and parks – if you’ve been following me. And this post isn’t any different, but you know what’s different? Is that this post tours you in a safari, which is unlike any other!

Since having a child, we couldn’t not visit places that lets his imagination go wild. And by going to places that has animals and plants, I know that it’s one way to make him enjoy our trip. Museums don’t bring spark to him yet, so we focus on age-appropriate places to visit.

If you’re here for the first time, I’d like to invite you to follow me on my socials – Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok so you’re updated on our recent food, hotel, and travel reviews!

What to expect before you go

The easiest way to get to Kyushu Wildlife Park African Safari is by booking a tour, because the other way to go there is by driving a car. And we haven’t decided about driving cars in other countries yet, after seeing that Japan parking lots are a bit pricier than here, not to mention having to refill gas in the middle of our trip, we decided to book a tour instead.

Make sure to use my Klook code HAPPIKLOOK before you checkout from Klook!

There’s just this one downside, though, when booking tours. You couldn’t be sure about riding the jungle bus, as it usually is booked in advance. And true enough, when we got there, they didn’t have slots anymore. Sad. 🙁

Nonetheless, we rode the bus to go around the largest safari in Japan, and my son did enjoy his time. So, I didn’t mind not being able to ride the jungle bus.

So, take that into consideration if you’re planning to add Kyushu Wildlife African Safari to your Japan itinerary.

You can drive your car inside

If you can and don’t care about the expenses, you can rent a car instead of booking a tour to get to Kyushu Wildlife Park African Safari. The advantage of having a car is that you can spend the time you want while inside, and you can leave if you want to go somewhere else.

However, one downside about driving your own car is that you can’t feed the animals. And that’s one experience that we wanted our son to experience, so maybe we could go back again next time, or find a similar safari with a jungle bus.

The tour we booked in Klook includes a visit in Yufuin and Umi Jigoku – one of the famous Beppu hells. And the first place in our itinerary is Kyushu Wildlife Park African Safari. Inside the bus, the tour guide explains the itinerary for the day in English, Chinese, and in other languages depending on the visitors.

We left the meetup place at about 8:30 AM then arrived at 10:30 AM to the largest Japan safari park. Upon arriving, the guide immediately went down to check the jungle bus availability, however, as I said earlier, we weren’t able to secure slots.

Always carrying his favorite camera!

In the end, we just rode the tour bus and started our Japan safari tour.

It was a great sight!

We saw lots of safari animals left and right (literally!) – like goats, elephants, giraffes, lions, bisons, and many wild animals. So be careful when driving your own car during your safari tour. In some parts, you’re not allowed to open windows for safety.

More animal feeding area

After 45 minutes of the safari tour, the bus went to the parking area and the tour guide let us go to the other part of Japan safari land. After entering, we found that there’s still an opportunity for our son to feed the animals.

Finally able to feed the animals.

Kangaroos waiting for visitors to feed them snacks are everywhere!

You can purchase specific snacks from vendors just beside the feeding area. For 200 JPY (77.33 PHP or 1.35 USD), you’ll get 5 sticks of sweet potato in the first feeding area. And while it might not be the cheapest, the experience you’re paying for is really worth it.

My son felt like he’s feeding his kangaroo pet and he really enjoyed it!

Sadly, no feeding of capybara was allowed.

There are also feeding area for monkeys and petting areas for guinea pigs. Don’t worry about the petting area, because it’s totally free, you just have to line up and wait for your turn. The staff will give you a cloth and gloves to ensure the safety of the guinea pigs.

On the other side, there’s a Curry House if you suddenly get hungry. Just take note of the time because you wouldn’t want to book a taxi to go back home!

We followed the tour guide, and she led us to another feeding area: this time, miniature horses. And now it’s 5 carrots for 200 JPY.

Aaaand that’s it for the Kyushu Wildlife Park African Safari tour. We left and then proceeded to Yufuin, and then Umi Jigoku. Watch out for my full review of the tour we booked at Klook!

I don’t think there are other Fukuoka safari zoo apart from Kyushu Wildlife Park African Safari. And while it isn’t really part of Fukuoka, it’s a nice place to add to your Fukuoka itinerary, because it’s just a bus (book your tour here) or drive away.
