Finding things to do with toddlers in Hong Kong isn’t the easiest, because we were searching for a free indoor playground in Hong Kong, yet we couldn’t find one.
Our Hong Kong family trip wouldn’t have been the same had we not gone to the New Town Plaza. Finding Dino Park by accident was one of the best things in life, especially since it’s a Hong Kong free things to do with family!

Best Child-Friendly Place in Hong Kong
Is there a child who doesn’t like dinosaurs? It seems there isn’t.
Because, when we went to Dino Park Sha Tin, children of different ages and gender were enjoying every bit of their time in the Hong Kong outdoor playground. So, if you have kids and are planning to visit Hong Kong, make sure to include it in your itinerary.
Dino Park HK Opening Hours
The Dino Park opening times don’t change every day. Just go to the 5/F of New Town Plaza, and visit the outdoor terrace from 7 AM to 10 PM to enjoy the Dino Park children’s playground.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Don’t go there from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, and 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM because the free outdoor playground will be closed for cleaning time. Other than those times, your children are free to play in the area.
Dino Park Games
Without having to pay for Dino Park HK tickets, your child can enjoy lots of gross motor skill games with gusto. Besides enhancing fine motor skills in children, it’s also important that children can move their large muscle groups in the arms, legs, and torso.
The brain benefits a lot with many gross motor skill movements in young children. Studies have proven that children who do activities involving large muscle groups have higher cognitive skills than those who don’t.
So we make sure that we are intentional when looking for Hong Kong places to visit with our child.
Aaaand… We weren’t disappointed when we visited New Town Plaza Dino Park.
Tyrannosaurus Adventure
Upon reaching the 5/F, we followed the signage that led us to where Dino Park was. We were greeted by a large orange dinosaur, seemingly calling us to take photos with him. Of course, our son was very delighted to receive the warm welcome of the orange inflatable T-rex.
After being satisfied with the photos, he immediately ran towards the Tyrannosaurus Adventure, where even big kids can play. From the mouth of the t-rex, children can climb up and down the carpeted ramp.
Inside the 7-meter-tall dinosaur, children can slide down through 3 different slide lengths and shapes. Thankfully, the 26-meter-long play area can accommodate lots of children, so they can play happily without worrying about overoccupying the place.
Swing and Seesaw
After that large T-rex adventure, you’ll find 2 swings and a seesaw.
Who doesn’t like them? Even adults (like me, ahem) love riding the swing!
Rope Climbing
A rope climbing activity is also available in the Dino Park. It helps children learn about their bodies and how to move with them.
Trampoline
Then, there’s the rocking board and trampoline, that help children improve their coordination skills. Best of all, they have a low impact on our bodies because it doesn’t put too much stress on our body joints.
Besides the usual playground equipment, the HK outdoor playground also has rope nets and climbing frames. There’s even a wood in the middle of the rope nets where children can practice balancing themselves as they go to the other side.
Wall Climbing and Slides
Moving on, you’ll see a green stegosaurus which has a wall-climbing activity on the side. In the middle, a staircase allows children to strengthen their muscles to prepare for the activity on the other side.
An open slide and a slanting top rope wall-climbing activity are there, which were never vacated during our visit. The Hong Kong children seemed to like the activity, just like how our son did.
But it’s nice that there’s a smaller slide and climb area for younger kids to enjoy.
Spinners
Spinners are also available, which is also found to have benefits for them. These spinning playground equipment are helpful in children with their brain function. While spinning, children’s both sides of their brains are being used, so it helps them pay better attention to what’s going on around them.
Besides all the usual playground equipment we’ve seen, there’s one thing that Dino Park Shatin has that other outdoor playgrounds don’t.
Dino Zipline
A Dino Zipline is one to excite children of all ages. If it didn’t have an age limit, we would’ve ridden it too!
But as a parent, you don’t have to worry much about your child’s safety because the zipline is only 4 meters high from the ground and 23 meters away from the starting point. So, do you now believe that Dino Park is the best outdoor playground Hong Kong has?
Besides all these slightly extreme activities, your child can enjoy a low-intensity game at Dino Park.
Wall Activity Boards
Mounted wall activity boards are found on the side, so children can enjoy a bit of rest time without boring themselves out.
Other Child-Friendly Places in Hong Kong for Family
There are many Hong Kong Places to visit with family, however, not all are free.
The New Town Plaza also has another children playground which has a free entrance called Snoopy’s World. While Snoopy World may be a bit smaller than Dino Park, it’s also a great place for children to spend some outdoor time.
But if you plan to visit both within a day, make sure to go to Snoopy’s World first, because it has more limited equipment than Dino Park.

Dino Park Hong Kong Review Conclusion
We found many free museums in Hong Kong when we went there a few years ago. But most children aren’t fascinated by structures and paintings about Hong Kong’s history. Finding places in Hong Kong to visit is not very easy when you have children.
This is why I hope this Dino Park review has given you an idea about the best Hong Kong places to explore especially when you’re traveling with kids.
