Dazaifu Amusement Park – Finding Dazaifu Amusement Park and adding it to our Fukuoka itinerary is one of the things all parents must consider. Why? Because you don’t have to line up to enjoy the rides at the amusement park!
I have heard about Dazaifu Tenmangu lots of times from my friend, but never once did I hear her tell me about the hidden amusement park inside. No wonder, because it’s a place where only kids (and kids at heart) would appreciate.

If you’re here for the first time, I’d like to invite you to follow me on my socials – Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok so you’re updated on our recent food, hotel, and travel reviews!
Dazaifu Amusement Park price
Before you visit Dazaifu Amusement Park, you need to know these 2 things.
- You need to pay for the Dazaifu Amusement Park entrance fee
- And then think whether you’re going to buy the unli rides pass (other rides are exempted from the pass) or you’re going to buy the tokens only
Sounds confusing?
Yep, we got confused too when we arrived.
So to make it easier for you, I want you to know that all of you visiting need to buy the Dazaifu Amusement Park entrance ticket to be able to go in.

Next, you should decide which ones among you are going to purchase the unli pass. Because only those who buy the pass can enjoy rides. (Unless, you use tokens or tickets — more about it below)

We decided to buy only 2 unli passes – one for hubby, and another one for our son.
That way, hubby can ride the covered rides (photo above) with our son and they can have more bonding time.

BUT!
If you don’t want to pay the unlimited pass, you can choose to buy the 1,000 Yen ticket (which consists of 10 pcs of 100 Yen) that’s good for the rides. Take note that the minimum fee for each ride is 200 Yen, so the maximum you can ride is 5 rides with this plan.

But with this 1,000 Yen ticket, you can share it with anyone going inside the park.

However, if you bought the unli pass, and wish to ride the others not included in the list, you can purchase tickets inside the park. Some rides need coins to work, so make sure to check first before buying tickets.

Dazaifu shopping street
To reach Dazaifu Amusement Park, you will pass by the Dazaifu shopping street. And in there, you can see lots of food, souvenir shops, and it’s where you’ll find the Starbucks with aesthetic exterior and interior.

You can check the shops out before or after visiting the shrine and the theme park.

Dazaifu Amusement Park rides
Dazaifu reviews are everywhere, but when I was looking for Dazaifu Amusement Park review, it seems the posts are all very long time ago. So, I knew that I should be the one to give an update about the seemingly old theme park.
You’d be surprised that even if Dazaifu Theme Park looked old, the machines are working fine. And while I was a bit afraid to let my child ride them at first, but then I remembered that I’m in Japan, so I was reassured that the rides were safe to use.
Mini viking
Upon entering the Dazaifu Amusement Park, the first thing that my hubby noticed was the Mini viking. And he instantly called our son to ride with him, however, he got turned down, as my son already knew how it feels like riding a viking.
But don’t worry, because I believe very young kids can enjoy the ride because it’s less scarier than an actual one found in most theme parks.
Ampanman train

The Ampanman train is one cute ride, however, since we still need to insert coins, we decided to ride others instead.
Thomas & Percy train

Same goes to Thomas & Percy train, we just want to enjoy the unlimited rides since we already paid for them.
Game corner

Kids who love the arcade would definitely fall in love with the game corner. Because with just 100 JPY (38.49 Php or 0.67 USD), you can play arcade games with your kids. There are also some rides for your child.
Skyship

Cute and safe, that’s what I’d love to describe skyship. Riding the craft 8 meters from the ground, you and your child can enjoy a 400-meter ride that’s surely safe and enjoyable. My son rode this one 2 to 3 times!
Sky cycle

On the same platform as the skyship, you can ride the sky cycle with your child. The only difference is that you have to work your way until you return to the starting point using your legs.
Bickli house
The bickli house is included in the free pass, but we decided not to let our son go in. Because it seems that the place might bring nightmare to him, so maybe we can check it out when he’s a bit older.
But if you love horror houses, then you should check it out. In all honestly, I believe that it might not be that scary, but just to save our son from getting traumatized, we decided to skip it.
Elephant family

If you have ridden Dumbo in Disneyland, you already know how the elephant family works. Going round and round, and up and down, you’ll find yourself enjoying the ride more and more.
Lady

A gentle ride is what you would want your young kids to enjoy, and if so, you should try out lady. The cute and colorful ladybug ride is safe and secure as it moves very slowly, and just enough to bring a cool breeze to your face.
Twinkle maze

To get inside the twinkle maze, you need to buy a ticket, so again, we didn’t bother buying.
Lucky merry-go-round

The appeal of carousels surely never gets old. My son immediately ran to the lucky merry-go-round when he saw the horses. It’s the ride that brings out nostalgia in anyone.
Happy kangaroo
Condor or abyss, whatever you call rides that suddenly drop, is what happy kangaroo is about. And even though we saw very young kids (even younger than my son) enjoying the ride, my son didn’t want to try it.

Seems like, he’s just like me, who’s scared of the feeling of falling down. Haha
Battery car
Another thing we didn’t try is the battery car. Since we can easily find rides like this anywhere, we skipped this part and focused on the “free” ones.
Children’s steam
Of course, what’s not to be missed is the children’s steam – or more commonly known as train.

Everytime my son sees trains at theme parks, he couldn’t help but ride them. He loved how he could be the driver of his train, with his dad as the passenger. He also rang the bell during his train trip, so it added to his happiness.
Kids canoe

Now, the best part of the Dazaifu Amusement Park, as far as our son is concerned, is the kids canoe. I couldn’t even count how many times he rode it, because he kept wanting to ride it again, and again, and AGAIN.
I stood with him and followed him while he enjoyed every bit – as he rowed, then got curious about the canoe. Water surely brings enjoyment to him.
Kids go-kart
I really wanted my son to experience riding a go-kart, but the cheap person inside of me had to let the kids go-kart pass, because you also need to pay for every ride. So, maybe, we can have our son experience it in the future – when we visit a theme park that offers the ride for free. Haha
F1 car

Another ride that needs payment, F1 car was very enticing to our son. However, again, we skipped it.
Train coaster

After learning how to love roller coasters, hubby sure couldn’t leave Dazaifu Amusement Park without riding the train coaster. And while it’s really not that thrilling for him, he enjoyed the ride about 3 times, because why not?
He didn’t even have to line up to keep riding it!
Water coaster
Afraid of getting wet, we didn’t even think twice about riding water coaster. But if you and your child are adventurous, why not try it out? It might be the best ride for you!
Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine
When we’re done playing at Dazaifu Amusement Park, of course, we couldn’t leave Dazaifu without a visit to the Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. It was 3 PM when we left the theme park, and after walking for about 15 minutes, we reached one of the famous Fukuoka attractions – Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine.

Many people were there earlier when we went to the theme park, thankfully, it wasn’t as crowded when we went there in the afternoon. People come and go, and say their prayers at the shrine, write their wishes on an ema – wooden tablet, or discover their fortunes written in omikuji.

Best time to visit Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is in the morning, when there’s less visitors, according to the website. But when we went there at about 10 AM, there were many people. So maybe you can go there even earlier.
You can catch morning prayers and feel blessed instantly. It’s also the best time to take Instagrammable photos with fewer people.
How to properly pay respects at the Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine?
Anyone of any religion is welcome to visit and pray at the shrine. But to show respect is by following what people believe has started in the Dazaifu Tenmangu history.
- Worshippers are advised to wash their hands at the temizuya. Some even rinse their mouths.
- Pass the two-story romon gate and approach the main sanctuary, honden.
- Usually, visitors leave a small offering on the box in front of the honden.
- Begin your prayer with 2 deep bows, clap your hands twice, and then pray.
- Offer a bow.
- Pass by the shrine counter to receive your blessing, amulet, or fortune.
Starbucks Fukuoka Dazaifu
The friend I heard Dazaifu about is the same one who told me to visit Starbucks Dazaifu.
I used to be a fan of Starbucks in the olden times (okay, I’m a bit old! Haha), but now that I want to save money and lessen my sugar intake, I prefer to drink black coffee at home.
But, of course, I couldn’t not enter the famous Starbucks with an aesthetic view!

True enough, when I saw the exterior, I was in awe!
It was decorated very very nicely – just look at the thin woods weaved diagonally! The creator, Kengo Kuma, wanted to make the famous coffee shop harmonize with the townscape, and so he did it.

But when you enter inside the Starbucks, you’ll immediately feel like it’s calling you in. Thanks to the 2,000 thin cedar woods interwoven to look like giant basket, and the effect was to attract customers to go inside along with the curves.
Dazaifu Amusement Park review conclusion
Dazaifu Amusement Park might not be one of the most famous Fukuoka places to visit, but I believe that it should be on your Fukuoka itinerary if you have very young kids. The chill and cute rides will definitely make your kids enjoy the whole day.
But the best part of it is that you don’t have to wait in line just to ride rides.
